Supporting Pupils with Down Syndrome in the Classroom

This course introduces Down syndrome to people who have little experience of working with children with this condition. It will highlight health implications, strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and outlines ways to address the specific learning needs and manage behaviours within the mainstream setting.

Outcome:

  • To learn about strengths and weaknesses in the classroom.
  • To learn how to plan teaching and learning to take account of the learning strengths and needs of children with Down syndrome.
  • To develop understanding of curriculum differentiation.
  • To develop a better understanding of the role of the learning support assistant in creating an inclusive learning environment
  • To improve your resource bank of teaching strategies, classroom resources and online tools across the curriculum.
