Meeting the Needs of Girls on the Autistic Spectrum

Meeting the Needs of Girls on the Autistic Spectrum

There are far more boys diagnosed with ASD than girls. This course will consider the possible reasons behind this through examining the diagnostic criteria for ASD and exploring how girls on the spectrum may present differently to boys. The specific needs of girls on the spectrum will be considered and practical strategies to help meet these discussed.

Outcome:

  • To consider the diagnostic criteria for ASD.

  • To discuss the differences in presentation between boys and girls on the autistic spectrum.

  • To recognise the specific needs of girls on the autistic spectrum.

  • To develop strategies to help support girls with ASD within mainstream schools.
