School Admissions & Transport

The Admissions and Transport Team will administer and coordinate your appeal cases to provide a Local Authority consultant to represent and support you with the appeal hearing. Please note that this service is not related to the work of the Education Appeals Team who administers the actual hearings. The Team is also able to provide a distance measuring service for in-year admissions.

Services provided:

Administration and Coordination of Appeal Case

Whilst Academies, Voluntary Aided, and Foundation Schools have responsibility for the content of any admissions appeal case they may wish to ask the LA to assist in the preparation of the appeal case on their behalf and ensure it is refreshed throughout the year. This can be done at a charge of £148 (based on 3 hours for an initial appeal) and then £90 (based on 2hrs) each time the case needs to be refreshed within the same academic year. Compilation of child case papers would be charged at £26.50 per appeal scheduled.

Please note that this service is provided to all schools for appeals as part of the main points of entry but for in-year admissions only schools that opt into the co-ordinated in year scheme can access this service

Provision of a Local Authority consultant

Academies can choose to have representation provided by experienced LA consultants as support for the school during the appeal. All consultants are previous headteachers or educational professionals with a wealth of experience in presenting appeal cases. This service is provided as follows:

  1. To attend the appeal and support the headteacher (who is attending the appeal) - £64 per appeal held,
  2. The consultant can be requested to visit the school to discuss the case prior to making the case to the appeal panel - £128 per appeal ( this charge includes 1 above) plus mileage.

In each case, it will be necessary for the school to provide ‘local knowledge of the school circumstances in order to inform the appeal process.

This charge excludes any costs associated with ombudsman work.

This service is available for all schools for both main points of entry and in-year admissions regardless of whether they opt-in or out of the co-ordinated in year scheme.

Distance Measuring

Where a voluntary aided or foundation school requires the calculation of direct or shortest walking distances for phased or in-year admissions, or the ranking of waiting lists, the Admissions and Transport Team will charge £185 per academic year.

This price includes any ad-hoc requests for measurements as required.
