BESST Outdoor Learning and Education for sustainability in Buckinghamshire

Outdoor Education is at the heart of the 5-year strategy for Buckinghamshire Council with a particular focus on promoting this across vulnerable groups to support emotional health and wellbeing.

The focus for the day is to explore local good practice and how best to support staff to achieve high quality outdoor learning in this area.

There will be a range of sessions for participants to choose from, delivered by local educators and providers from the area.

Including:

  • Helen Dodd – Professor of child psychology specialising in health and wellbeing
  • Heritage House School staff and pupils
  • Alex Williams – Muddy Feet Outdoor Learning Company
  • Julie Lloyd Evans – Buckinghamshire Outdoor Network and Sustainability Specialist
  • Caroline Langley - Down the Woods Outdoor Learning Company
  • A range of local school initiative lead practitioners

Lunch will be provided along with a range of outdoor stands and stalls plus lunchtime activities to participate in.

Participants will learn:

  • Innovative ways to integrate outdoor learning into their curriculum

  • Practical delivery methods suitable for a range of school settings

  • Where to access support locally and source resource materials for use in school

  • Signposting to the latest around outdoor learning and how this links to health and wellbeing for children.
